First Eleven Team Photograph at the 1990 B&D Plate Final

The Nervous Nineties

For YMCA Cricket Club the 1990's were to prove to be a period of consolidation and rebuilding. Following the success of eighties, the final decade of the 20th century witnessed the sad demise of the Sunday Eleven and several key club members moved on including Alan and Mike Whale. Meanwhile, in 1990 the Wanderers (now the Fourth Eleven) and Midweek side were temporarily suspended until, thankfully, the club relaunched them in 1995 together with a dynamic new youth set up.

On the field the Club tasted little in the way of sustained success and for the Second and Third Eleven's, in particular, the nineties were a baron time. However there were exceptions, most notably the first team, who began the decade with an appearance in the 1990 B&D Plate Final and promotion in 1995, for one brief season, to Senior Division Two (now Division One in the restructured league) which remains the highest level that the club has competed in since the league was formed in 1973.

If you played for the First Eleven during that period why not take a look at the season by season averages for 1990 -1999 that appear on the Averages & Records section of this website.
