WEATHER PUTS YMCA ON VERGE OF CLUB RECORD

YMCA Cricket Club could set a new record on Saturday - but there will not be many players willing to celebrate this particular milestone. Should the Second Division match at Bristol Indians be cancelled or abandoned it will mean the Golden Hill-based club will have experienced four successive Saturdays without achieving a league result thanks to one of the wettest months of May in recent times.

Since the formation of the Bristol & District League in 1973 the YM' have never experienced an entire month without completing a fixture.

The current unenviable record of three successive wet weekends was set when two seasons ago the Christians lost their first three matches to rain.

In 1983, Steve Buckland's team had the three opening matches of the season cancelled before finishing a disappointing 10th in Division I.

Another equally wet year occurred in 1997 when current captain Simon White and his team-mates finally began the season on May 24 with an eight wicket defeat at home to Bitton in what turned out to a poor season.
